Youth wins pie contest, raises money for library
Twenty-five pies were entered in this year's pie baking contest and auction, raising $955 for the Park Rapids Library.
The 12th annual competition, held July 4, was sponsored by Beagle and Wolf Books & Bindery, Park Rapids Friends of the Library and Third Street Market.
Bethany David's lemon meringue pie was selected as "Best in Show" in addition to winning first place in the juvenile division.
Brandi Novak took second place in the juvenile division with her huckleberry cheesecake pie.
In the single crust category, Olivia Wallace's sunkissed strawberry with lemon custard pie earned a first place nod. Sandy Henk won second with her frozen peanut butter pie.
Mark Bridge delivered a rhubarb-strawberry pie to place first in the double crust division. Gloria Bonham's Finnish tri-berry pie took second.
Terry Novak won first place in the custard/cream division by baking a moonshine strawberry-rhubarb meringue pie. Bridge captured second place with an ambassador black bottom pie.
This year's judges were Tom and Megan Geraedts of Park Rapids; Jim Gatto of Chestertown, Maryland, and Barb Schreiner of Potato Lake/Bloomington.
