Smashing Pumpkins to visit SD, Minn. in first tour in 20 years
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Alternative rock pioneers The Smashing Pumpkins are coming to South Dakota and Minnesota in August.
It’s been more than 20 years since the group has been on tour.
Called, the Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour, it features founding members Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha. Produced by Live Nation, the 36-city tour comes to Sioux Falls’ Denny Sanford Premier Center Aug. 21 and to the Xcel Center in St. Paul on Aug. 19.
Tickets for the Sioux Falls show will go on sale to the general public starting next Friday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. at the events center box office, www.ticketmaster.com, www.smashingpumpkins.com, LiveNation.com via the Live Nation App, or charge-by- phone at 800-745- 3000.
The tour coincides with the 30th anniversary of the band’s formation and will highlight music from the group’s inception through 2000
Formed in Chicago in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins released their heralded debut album Gish in 1991 and found mainstream success with 1993’s Siamese Dream and 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
The band has played in Sioux Falls before in the Arena in the 1990s.
