Lynn Ann Peterson

Lynn Ann Peterson passed away peacefully at her home on June 28 in Park Rapids, Minnesota, with her loving husband/family at her side, after a valiant battle against cancer.

Lynn was born on December 1, 1953, in Austin, Minnesota, to Lloyd and Dorothy (Halvorson) Goodmanson. She attended Austin High School, graduating with the class of 1972. She attended Concordia College from 1972-1974, after which she transferred to St. Cloud State University. While there, Lynn continued her studies in foreign language and worked for a year with Mom's Apple Pie Comedy Troupe, traveling throughout Minnesota performing comedy sketches for high school assemblies. In 1975-1976 Lynn studied German and French at the Goethe Institute and Interpreters' School in Zurich, Switzerland, living with family friends and developing a deep love of the Swiss culture and country. Returning to St. Cloud State University in 1976, she met her future husband, Nels Peterson, in the university library, and they married on May 28, 1977, after graduation. They moved to Piney Lake in Vail, Colorado, that day to start their 41 years of marriage together.

While living in Vail, Lynn worked for Vail Resorts in mountain restaurant management, taught in the Eagle County school system, managed rental properties, and worked at Vail Valley Medical Center in the Office of Development. She had a home-based sewing business and crafted custom bedding for interior designers in the Vail Valley. Lynn was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Vail serving both as secretary and laywoman.

When her sons arrived, Lynn was an avid volunteer in their school classrooms, enjoying being the "spelling mom" and accompanying the children on field trips in Colorado. She enjoyed exploring Colorado with her family, hiking at Piney Lake, and jeeping the back roads of the Vail Valley.

In 1995, Lynn and her family moved to Park Rapids, Minnesota. They settled into life "Up North," enjoying the beautiful lakes and peaceful lifestyle, tolerating the sometimes grueling winters. Throughout the years in Park Rapids, Lynn worked as an ESL instructor in the Park Rapids School system, and she taught German in the Menahga, Sebeka and Henning school systems. In 2003 she began her work with CHI St. Joseph's Health as an executive assistant, where she developed a deep appreciation for work in the health care field.

Lynn was a walker and could be spotted walking to and from work, walking the Heartland Trail, and walking just for the fun of it. She was an avid sewer, jewelry maker and bread baker. Her most recent love was creating angel gowns from donated wedding dresses for babies who don't survive childbirth, for the "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep" project.

Lynn was preceded in death by her parents.
